If Elected President, Sefcovic Will Waive His Immunity

Bratislava, March 19 (TASR) – I’ll waive my immunity, if I’m elected to be Slovak president, presidential candidate Maros Sefcovic told a press conference in Bratislava on Tuesday.

“If I become the Slovak president, I’ll give up my immunity from the first day,” he said. If it needs a change to the law, he’ll press the Government and Parliament to do it. According to him, politicians can’t be a protected species and everyone should be equal before the law.
The candidate promises to do his utmost to increase people’s confidence in politicians and the state. “And this because I realise how low people’s trust in the state and politicians is,” noted Sefcovic. He also says no to the hatred spreading across society. He reiterated that he wants to ensure society-wide reconciliation.

Sefcovic is also prepared, as he said, to do everything to make Slovakia strong in Europe. At the same time he wants to correctly and constructively hold talks with media representatives on how to create a more positive and peaceful atmosphere in society.

Sefcovic also promises a social programme, help for seniors and young families, and assistance for the agriculture sector. “I offer expertise, experience, contacts and a clean personal badge,” he said.

Sefcovic is contending for the post of Slovak president with Zuzana Caputova. He made it to the run-off election with support from 18.66 percent of voters, while Caputova persuaded 40.57 percent of people. The second round of the presidential election will be held on Saturday, March 30. Sefcovic will accept the voters’ decision with humility. The new president will take office on June 15.
