Kiska in Rome: EU Is Solution for Every Issue
Rome, December 13 (TASR) – Euroscepticism, the 2019 elections to the European Parliament, migration as well as relations between Slovakia and Italy over the years were high on the agenda of a meeting between Slovak President Andrej Kiska and his Italian counterpart Sergio Mattarella, which took place in Rome on Thursday.
“We discussed what we can do to make our European Union – so amazing a project – even stronger,” said Kiska, adding that he and Mattarella share similar opinions on a number of issues.
“We concurred that young people are the biggest advocates of the European Union but also they are those who need to be talked to the most,” said the Slovak president.
“The European Union certainly is not the problem – the EU is a solution for every single problem,” he said, adding that big problems, including migration, terrorism, climate change, but also economic growth, can only be dealt with together.
The Slovak president described Slovak-Italian relations as excellent, highlighting the growing mutual trade and the recent visit of Prime Minister Peter Pellegrini to Rome. He added that more than 500 Italian companies have invested in Slovakia leading to the creation of more than 40,000 jobs.
