Martin Klus Joint Candidate of Centre-right for Post of BBSK Governor
Banska Bystrica, June 28 (TASR) – Martin Klus (Freedom and Solidarity/SaS) will vie for the post of Banska Bystrica region (BBSK) governor in the election due to take place this November as a joint candidate of centre-right political parties SaS, OLaNO, NOVA, the Christian Democrats (KDH) and the Civic Conservative Party (OKS), stated representatives of the parties in Banska Bystrica on Wednesday.
SaS Vice-chair Jana Kissova said that this is the first region in which such a broad coalition has been put together. However, similar coalitions are likely to be created in other regions as well, she added.
“The coalition agreement doesn’t only offer joint candidates for governor and councillors. We’ve laid the foundation for cultivated, effective and decent cooperation. We’re capable of offering a solid alternative. BBSK is a model example of cooperation, as the negotiations were fair and effective, and it took a relatively short time to sign the coalition agreement,” said Kissova, adding that Klus is a decent and honest alternative that has great potential to improve the region.
KDH head Alojz Hlina stated that it’s sad that Banska Bystrica region has been headed by far-right People’s Party Our Slovakia (LSNS) leader Marian Kotleba. It would be tragic if this remained the case after the upcoming regional elections. “I believe that there will be a good result in the end,” he said.
According to Klus, the future of BBSK lies in joining forces. As for his personal challenges, Klus wants to change the current situation in the region, involving not only a change in the governor post. The centre-right coalition is ready to make this change possible, as it has good candidates for councillors and a programme, he stated.
