Matecna: I Want to Set Up Analytical 'Agricultural Policy Institute'

Bratislava, March 14 (TASR) – An analytical Agricultural Policy Institute should be set up at the Agriculture and Rural Development Ministry to examine the situation in the sector and propose solutions, minister Gabriela Matecna (a Slovak National Party/SNS nominee) stated at a press conference on Tuesday.

“I’ll strive to get even completely unknown economic analysts with references on the Agricultural Policy Institute team, perhaps from foreign schools and other sectors than agriculture. We want them to take an outsider look at our sector,” said Matecna.

Commenting further on her record during her first year in office, Matecna said that she was mainly engaged in “eliminating problems” in Slovak agriculture.

“I’m not saying that I’ve been eliminating the effects of moves made in the past; it perhaps rather concerns the effects of the overall setting of agriculture that has been in place for years,” said Matecna, adding that she was too busy with the Slovak Presidency of the EU Council in the second half of 2016 to introduce more thoroughgoing measures, but she did manage to organise a number of roundtable talks to analyse the situation and propose solutions.
