Matecna Wants Slovak Producers to Access Chinese Market More Easily
Bratislava, November 12 (TASR) – The Agriculture and Rural Development Ministry wants to open the door to the Chinese market for Slovak producers of milk and meat, TASR learnt on Sunday.
According to Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Gabriela Matecna (a Slovak National Party/SNS nominee), China has huge export potential and is interested in quality and safe food. “We have a lot to offer in this area,” said Matecna in China, where she’s holding talks in this regard with Zhi Shuping, Minister of the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of the People’s Republic of China (AQSIQ).
Every single commodity imported into China has to go through a demanding certification process before it can be placed on the Chinese market. “Slovakia has already begun certification processes for milk, dairy products and pork,” said the minister.
Matecna in China also spoke about strengthening cooperation between the two countries in the field of agriculture, in particular in education and cooperation in combating soil erosion.
Among the main agricultural products that Slovakia exports to China are wine, non-alcoholic beverages and live creatures (bumble bees). Imports from China mainly include fish, canned fruit, dried vegetables and sweets.
