Most-Hid Greenlights Its 2020 Slate, Ersek Is Party's Election Leader

Bratislava, November 23 (TASR) – The Most-Hid Republican Council has agreed on Saturday that incumbent Transport Minister Arpad Ersek has finally become the leader of the Most-Hid slate for the 2020 general election, TASR learnt on the same day.

Ersek will be followed by party chairman Bela Bugar and head of the Environment Ministry Laszlo Solymos.

According to Bugar, selecting Ersek as an election leader was based on the experience and abilities that Ersek has so far demonstrated. “He confirmed that he firmly stands behind his words and that he can manage such a large and complex ministry as the Transport Ministry,” said Bugar.

Ersek considers his election as the leader to be a challenge. “I’m not afraid of it, I take it responsibly and I’ll do my best so that the Most-Hid party gains the necessary percentages,” said Ersek. He called on all those who found themselves on the 150-member Most-Hid slate to help achieve this goal.

Most-Hid Vice-chair and Government Proxy for Roma Communities Abel Ravasz runs at fourth place. The top ten also includes MPs and members of the party presidium Tibor Bastrnak (5th) and Elemer Jakab (6th) as well as Parliamentary Vice-chair Andrej Hrnciar (7th), Bratislava regional vice-governor Alzbeta Ozvaldova (8th), Education Ministry State Secretary Peter Krajnak (9th) and Csaba Feher (10th).

As announced earlier, Justice Minister Gabor Gal and Justice Ministry State Secretary Edita Pfundtner are not included in the slate.

Nominees of extra-parliamentary parties MKDA and Chance, as well as of the Roma Initiative of Slovakia (RIS) are also included in the list.

The Republican Council also approved the election programme. According to Ravasz, it will be an updated Civic Vision 2016. “Those items that we’ve fulfilled in the agenda have been replaced by new challenges, related to priority areas in which Most-Hid wants to contribute to improvement,” said Ravasz.

The parliamentary election is scheduled for February 29, 2020. Political parties are obligated to submit their slates by December 1, 2019 at the very latest.
