MPs Ask Kalinak to Detail Kiska’s Use of Government Aircraft

Bratislava, March 21 (TASR) – Interior Minister Robert Kalinak (Smer-SD) has been requested to inform Parliament concerning the use of the ministry’s aircraft by senior state officials, TASR learnt on Tuesday.

This follows a proposal to this effect that was submitted by governing Smer-SD party MP Martin Nemky and endorsed by 128 legislators.

“According to reports on Aktualne.sk and in Pravda daily, the president [Andrej Kiska] is using state aircraft for trips that aren’t always working trips. Further to this, I’m requesting that this should be reviewed and that a report on [the use of the aircraft by] the president and other top officials should then be presented to Parliament,” said Nemky.

By contrast, three initiatives submitted by Opposition OLaNO-NOVA leader Igor Matovic were nowhere near as successful.

First, Matovic wanted Parliament to extend an official call on Prime Minister Robert Fico to move without delay out of what Matovic called a plush apartment in a block built by controversial entrepreneur Ladislav Basternak.

Parliament also voted down Matovic’s initiative to instruct Transport and Construction Minister Arpad Ersek (Most-Hid) to disclose all land transfers vis-a-vis D4-motorway and R7-expressway stretches in the direction of the town of Dunajska Streda (Trnava region).

A proposal to enjoin Defence Minister Peter Gajdos (a Slovak National Party/SNS nominee) to reveal a full list of politicians who have been promoted in military rank recently also turned out to be a non-starter.

Meanwhile, lawmakers backed the idea of having Slovak MEPs deliver reports in the House on their work in the European Parliament and on issues currently under debate in the EP.
