Number of Holidaymakers in Slovakia Up by 4.4% Y-o-Y in 1Q18
Bratislava, June 27 (TASR) – The number of tourists who decided to spend their holidays in Slovakia went up by 4.4 percent year-on-year in the first quarter of 2018 to 1.2 million individuals accommodated in the country, TASR learnt from the Transport and Construction Ministry, which manages the tourism sector.
“It’s a very good sign that tourism has been enjoying a very positive period over the past years. The growing number of tourists shows that we can attract people, be interesting for them and also be competitive,” said Transport Minister Arpad Ersek (Most-Hid), adding that Slovakia has to continue working on its quality, innovations and originality in order to keep up with the best.
In the first three months of 2018, tourists spent in Slovakia on average 2.8 nights, with most of the tourists being Slovaks (63 percent). As for foreigners, Slovakia was visited mainly by Czechs, Poles, Germans, Hungarians, Ukrainians and Austrians.
In addition to Bratislava region, the foreign visitors were interested in the towns of Liptovsky Mikulas, Ruzomberok (both Zilina region) and Poprad (Presov region).
