OLaNO Thrashes Smer-SD in General Election; Markiza Exit Poll

Bratislava, February 29 (TASR) – Opposition party OLaNO seems to have thrashed the main governing party Smer-SD in the general election on Saturday, garnering 25.8 percent of the votes, while the hitherto dominant Smer had only 14.9 percent, according to an exit poll carried out by the Focus agency on behalf of TV Markiza.


Extra-parliamentary Progressive Slovakia-Together scored 9.7 percent.
Other places in the exit poll were taken by Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) – 8.3 percent, former president Andrej Kiska’s For the People – 7.8 percent, We Are Family – 7.5 percent, the far-right People’s Party Our Slovakia (LSNS) – 6.5 percent and the Christian Democrats (KDH) – 5.1 percent.

No other party seems to have reached the 5-percent threshold needed to get into Parliament. This includes the Hungarian Community Solidarity – 3.8 percent, Good Choice – 2.8 percent, the junior governing Slovak National Party (SNS) – 2.4 percent, another governing party Most-Hid – 2 percent, and former Supreme Court chair Stefan Harabin’s Homeland – 1.9 percent.

Other parties received less than 1 percent each.
