Pellegrini: I've Never Considered Becoming Smer-SD Head

Bratislava, June 19 (TASR) – Prime Minister Peter Pellegrini (Smer-SD) stated on Wednesday that he’s never considered vying for the post of Smer-SD head, calling his relations with Smer chairman Robert Fico standard and saying that the party doesn’t plan to convene a personnel meeting.

“I don’t think that relations between me and Fico are important for our country at the moment. We have standard working relations,” said Pellegrini. “[Fico] made it clear … when he said that he means to lead the party into the upcoming [general] election,” he claimed.

Pellegrini holds the belief that Smer-SD will use the summer to set in motion “a new programme and new policies for the party”. The strategy for the 2020 general election will be presented in the autumn, he said. Pellegrini refused to comment on speculation that he might join the party of former health and interior minister Tomas Drucker (Smer-SD when holding those posts). He added that he’ll do his utmost to keep Smer-SD at “Olympian heights”.
