Pellegrini: Slovakia Ready for Winter in Terms of Gas Supplies
Bratislava, December 3 (TASR) – Slovakia is well prepared for the winter period in terms of gas supplies despite the current tension between Russia and Ukraine, stated Prime Minister Peter Pellegrini (Smer-SD) at a briefing on Monday after meeting figures from gas utilities.
Pellegrini along with Economy Minister Peter Ziga (Smer-SD) met the gas utility representatives to discuss secure gas supplies during the winter season as well as Slovakia’s readiness to handle a potential halt in supplies of natural gas.
“I can tell the Slovak public that the Slovak Republic is very well prepared for the years 2018/2019. It’s currently much better prepared than it was in 2009 [when supplies came under serious threat – ed. note]…,” said Pellegrini, adding that the country has carried out a great deal of measures so that it can deal with potential shortages in gas supplies from Russia via Ukraine.
The premier went on to say that regardless of the future situation regarding gas supplies from Russia, Slovakia will be able to cover gas consumption of both companies and households during the winter season.
Ziga confirmed Pellegrini’s statements. “All gas supplies from the Russian Federation via Ukraine are currently running normally, which means that neither business, nor political and military relations are affecting gas supplies,” he stated.
Gas utility Slovensky plynarensky priemysel (SPP) board of directors chairman Jan Valko also said that Slovakia is prepared for the heating season, adding that all of the reservoirs are sufficiently filled.
