Pellegrini: Slovakia Won't Go against Sanctions against Russia
Brussels, December 13 (TASR) – Slovakia has also supported the extension of economic sanctions against Russia in connection with the latest escalation of tensions between Russia and Ukraine in the Sea of Azov, TASR learnt on Thursday.
The EU leaders at a summit extended the sanctions against Russia for another six months – until July 2019.
Before the talks of the EU leaders in this fashion, Prime Minister Peter Pellegrini told journalists that Slovakia won’t go against the sanctions imposed against Russia.
“Although we have reservations on the effectiveness and effects of the sanctions, which seem to have no desired effect as all, Slovakia won’t steer away from the unified line and will fully respect and be part of the joint EU-27 decision…,” said Pellegrini.
EU leaders at the two-day EU summit in Brussels are set to discuss various serious issues, including Brexit, Russian-Ukrainian tensions, preparations for the February EU-Arab League Summit, migration and climate change as well as economic issues.
