Caputova: People Frustrated, Don't Trust Lawmakers and Politics
Bratislava, March 31 (TASR) – President-elect Zuzana Caputova stated on TA3’s discussion programme ‘V politike’ (In Politics) on Sunday that this is a specific time, as people are frustrated and don’t trust politicians and politics as such, making it a great challenge not to disappoint them.

In regards to the presidential campaign she said that it was the negative campaigning that crossed the line. “It explicitly brought lies and untruths, and it concerned the family members of the candidates as well. It’s manageable but it’s unpleasant,” she stated.

When asked what her final opponent Maros Sefcovic was like, she said that she knows him only from the candidate debates, as they had never met before that. “I think it was cultivated to some extent,” she said.

Caputova wants to make use of the time before her inauguration by resting, but especially by preparing a team. “I’ll also keep proposing informal meetings with representatives of public power. It will be good preparation for taking over the post,” she stated. It remains unclear who will make up the team. “… I have a vision and will be glad if these people accept my offer,” she said, adding that she’ll also publish their remuneration if they agree.

Among her first steps in office will be foreign visits, with the first one being to the Czech Republic. Caputova also wants to travel across Slovakia and meet people and politicians. She didn’t exclude meetings with representatives of the far-right People’s Party Our Slovakia (LSNS), but only if they correct statements via which they, according to her, deny history.

She also expressed her hope that it will be possible to communicate with Prime Minister Peter Pellegrini (Smer-SD) and Parliamentary Chair Andrej Danko (Slovak National Party/SNS) in order to find solutions for Slovakia.
