Bratislava, February 4 (TASR) – The European Parliament election will be held on May 25, with the election date being set by Parliamentary Chair Andrej Danko (Slovak National Party/SNS), TASR learnt from the communications department of the Parliamentary Office on Monday.
Fourteen MEPs from Slovakia will be elected to the European Parliament.
Political parties can submit by February 24 slates with draft candidates for MEPs and their validity will be subsequently checked by a state commission. Political parties or coalitions can list on the slate the maximum number of MEPs that can be elected for Slovakia to the European Parliament. The election campaign starts today.
Slovak citizens as well as citizens of other EU member states, who, at the latest on election day, have reached the age of 21 and have permanent residence in Slovakia, have the right to be elected as Slovak MEPs.
MEPs are elected for a five-year term beginning on the day of the first European Parliament sitting after the election.
