Denisa Sakova Will Be New Interior Minister

Bratislava, April 24 (TASR) – Incumbent Interior Ministry State Secretary Denisa Sakova (a Smer-SD nominee) will be the new interior minister. President Andrej Kiska will receive her on Tuesday afternoon, Kiska’s spokesman Roman Krpelan confirmed for TASR on the same day.

“Prime Minister Peter Pellegrini on Tuesday personally informed President Andrej Kiska that current State Secretary Denisa Sakova is the nominee for the interior minister post. The president has invited her to the Presidential Palace for Tuesday, 3 p.m.,” said Krpelan.
Smer-SD’s top leadership decided on the nomination on Monday (April 23) and the party presidium had a final say on the issue. It will also be discussed at the Coalition Council meeting due to be held at 3.30 p.m. on Tuesday.

The interior post was emptied after Tomas Drucker (a Smer-SD nominee) resigned from it on April 16. He resigned after he decided not to recall Police Corps President Tibor Gaspar. Prime Minister Peter Pellegrini has been tasked with temporarily managing the ministry.

Smer-SD has regularly pointed out that the president must appoint the candidate submitted to him by the prime minister.
