Kovacik: I'll Announce When I'll Leave Special Prosecutor Post Soon

Bratislava, June 5 (TASR) – Special Prosecutor Dusan Kovacik told a news conference on Tuesday that he’ll soon announce to the public the date of his resignation, adding that his resignation will come much sooner than his regular tenure ending in 2021.

“It’s impossible to work normally under such pressure, still facing such senseless accusations. I do respect the opinions of people in the streets, but also of those who support me and tell me to stay,” he stressed, not specifying when he will announce the date of his departure.

Speaking at the meeting of the parliamentary constitutional committee on Tuesday, Kovacik said he is now only supervising things that are more or less related to the Gorilla case. “I’m not assigning any new cases to myself. I’m currently supervising over 17 criminal cases, with criminal charges having already been pressed in five of them. I assume they will be concluded by the end of this year, or by mid-2019 at the latest,” noted Kovacik.

Kovacik already spoke about his premature departure from the special prosecutor post last year. However, since then he hasn’t said when he will do so.
