LSNS to Support Bills Aimed at Scrapping Meciar Amnesties

Bratislava, March 20 (TASR) – The far-right People’s Party Our Slovakia (LSNS) will lend its support to the coalition-sponsored legislative proposal to revoke Vladimir Meciar’s amnesties and the presidential pardon granted by Michal Kovac to his own son, TASR learnt on Monday.

LSNS officials claimed that they’ve adopted this stance following a thorough legal analysis of the issue.

This means that the governing coalition of Smer-SD, the Slovak National Party (SNS) and Most-Hid will have enough votes along with LSNS to shepherd the bill through Parliament with a constitutional majority, even without support from the rest of the Opposition. “We will likewise support every other similar proposal designed to expose privatisation criminals regardless of which political party submits it,” said LSNS vice-chair Milan Uhrik.

In order to remove any shred of doubt that LSNS is serious about scrapping the amnesties and having criminals of the privatisation era punished, the party is also ready to greenlight the Opposition proposal submitted by MP Jan Budaj (OLaNO-NOVA) on the condition that he also includes the revoking of Kovac’s pardon in his bill. “We’ve already conveyed our condition to Mr. Budaj during the first reading of his proposal. Everyone must be held to the same standards,” added Uhrik.
