MPs to Elect Constitutional Court Judges Late on Tuesday Afternoon

Bratislava, February 8 (TASR) – The election of candidates for judges of the Constitutional Court will take place at 5 p.m. on Tuesday (February 12), TASR learnt following the end of the debate on the candidates in Parliament on Friday.

The parliamentary debate started on Thursday (February 7) afternoon, with 12 speakers signing up for it. MPs resumed the debate on Friday morning, with five more MPs expressing their wish to take part. The debate is now over, but not everyone ended up taking the floor.

The role of MPs is to choose 18 candidates whose names will be submitted to President Andrej Kiska, who should then appoint nine of them to replace the judges whose terms are set to expire soon. Constitutional Court judges are elected for a 12-year period.
