Pellegrini Unpleasantly Surprised That Most-Hid Supports Caputova

Bratislava, March 22 (TASR) – Prime Minister Peter Pellegrini (Smer-SD) stated on Friday that he was unpleasantly surprised with the fact that Smer-SD’s coalition partner Most-Hid had decided to support Zuzana Caputova in the second round of the presidential election and not Maros Sefcovic, who has support of Pellegrini’s party.

“The coalition agreement doesn’t bind the parties to support a joint candidate, Most-Hid has therefore the right to [support Caputova]. But I expected, given the quality of the candidate we offer, that Most-Hid would support Sefcovic and not Caputova. I expected this and I was unpleasantly surprised with this move. We’ll have to discuss where we are heading,” stated Pellegrini to the media.

Most-Hid recommended its supporters to vote for Caputova on Thursday. She won the first round of the presidential election with 40.57 percent of the votes. Sefcovic was placed second on 18.66 percent of the votes. The second round will take place on March 30.
