Bratislava, August 25 (TASR) – The Opposition Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) party is also demanding the immediate ousting of Monika Jankovska from the post of Justice Ministry state secretary, stated SaS MP Alojz Baranik on Sunday, adding that he sees no reason for Prime Minister Peter Pellegrini (Smer-SD) and Justice Minister Gabor Gal (Most-Hid) to await confirmation of her ties with entrepreneur Marian K.
“Pursuant to the provisions of the SIS [Slovak Intelligence Service] Act, Minister Gal and other members of the Government are provided with information on organised crime and anti-constitutional activities, which undoubtedly must have included details concerning Monika Jankovska,” said Baranik.
MP Veronika Remisova (Independent, a member of For the People) added that the premier’s inactivity is threatening the basic functions of the state. “The Jankovska case isn’t a failure of one person, it’s a symptom of a rotten, malfunctioning system that needs to be changed,” she stated.
Remisova called Jankovska’s immediate end in any political post a moral necessity. According to her, the information known so far is sufficient to infer political responsibility.
Jankovska’s dismissal has also been demanded by OLaNO leader Igor Matovic. If the minister and premier don’t remove her, he plans an all-day protest in front of the Justice Ministry as of 9 a.m. on Monday (August 26).
Pellegrini said on Saturday (August 24) that he’ll act if the suspicions are confirmed, while Gal stated that he’ll file a motion to dismiss Jankovska as soon as unofficial information is confirmed. If it is irrefutably confirmed and Smer-SD, which nominated Jankovska, insists that she should remain in her post, Gal will consider his future as minister.
Jankovska’s phone was seized on Thursday (August 22) due to suspicions that Jankovska has been involved in the criminal activities of Marian K. This follows the publishing of his chats with Alena Zs., which allegedly indicate that Marian K. gained influence at the ministry via Jankovska.
