Poll: Smer Would Have Won Election in April ahead of PS-Together
Bratislava, April 18 (TASR) – Had a general election taken place in Slovakia in April, it would have been won by the current main governing party Smer-SD, albeit on less that 20 percent of the votes (i.e. on 19 percent), with a prospective Progressive Slovakia (PS)-Together coalition the runner-up on 13.4 percent and the far-right People’s Party Our Slovakia (LSNS) third on 10.5 percent, according to the results of a Focus agency poll published on Thursday.
Smer-SD’s support has dropped by 3.4 percent since March, while the PS-Together coalition has gained 4.3 percent and LSNS has lost 1.3 percent.
Fourth place in the April poll went to Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) on 10.1 percent, followed by We Are Family – 9.4 percent, OLaNO – 9.1 percent, the co-ruling Slovak National Party (SNS) – 7.5 percent and the Christian Democrats (KDH) – 6.8 percent.
The co-governing Most-Hid would have ended up below the 5-percent threshold needed to make it into Parliament, with 4.7 percent in the poll, while the Hungarian Community Party (SMK) was on 3.6 percent and the Slovak Green Party on 1.6 percent.
Seats in Parliament would have been allocated as follows: Smer-SD – 33, PS-Together coalition – 23, LSNS and SaS – both 18, We Are Family – 17, OLaNO – 16, SNS – 13 and KDH – 12.
The poll was conducted on a sample of 1,026 respondents.
