Poll: Smer Would Have Won Election in August ahead of PS-Together and LSNS

Bratislava, September 5 (TASR) – Had a general election taken place in Slovakia in late August, it would have been won by the current main governing party Smer-SD, albeit on less that 20 percent of the votes (i.e. on 19.6 percent), with Progressive Slovakia (PS)-Together coalition the runner-up on 15.5 percent and the far-right People’s Party Our Slovakia (LSNS) third on 10.9 percent, according to the results of an AKO agency poll conducted for Hospodarske Noviny daily and published on Thursday.

Fourth place in the August poll went to Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) on 9 percent, followed by the party led by former president Andrej Kiska – For the People – on 8.8 percent, Boris Kollar’s We Are Family on 7.6 percent, OLaNO on 7.3 percent and the co-ruling Slovak National Party (SNS) on 7.1 percent. The last party to make it to Parliament would be the Christian Democrats (KDH) on 6.3 percent. The co-ruling Most-Hid (3.9 percent) and ethnic Hungarian SMK (3.5 percent) would remain outside Parliament.

Two parties that would have garnered less than one percent are the Communist Party of Slovakia (0.3 percent) and the Green Party of Slovakia (0.2 percent).
