Premier: Government Will Probably Nominate Sefcovic to EC Again

Bratislava, May 16 (TASR) – The Slovak Government will probably nominate incumbent EC Vice-president Maros Sefcovic to the European Commission (EC) again, Prime Minister Peter Pellegrini (Smer-SD) said at a session of the parliamentary European committee on Thursday, adding that he would like Sefcovic to become an EC vice-president again.

“I would very much like that. I indicated to the EU’s most senior representatives that Maros Sefcovic is the Government’s main candidate, whom I’d like to announce as a future commissioner, but also perhaps as a candidate for one of the higher positions,” said Pellegrini.

According to him, Sefcovic is also supported by colleagues from the Visegrad Four (V4) countries (the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia). Pellegrini pointed out that Sefcovic could be one of the longest serving commissioners.

The new European Commission will be formed after the European elections in May. Sefcovic is holding the position of the vice-president for the energy union in the present EC.
