Proud of Family March Celebrates Traditional Family
Bratislava, July 14 (TASR) – Thanking mothers and fathers, grandmothers and grandfathers for their unselfish love, and expressing respect to them for showing people the value of the traditional family were the main objectives of a march called Proud of the Family, which was held in Bratislava on Saturday parallel to Rainbow Pride 2018.
The organisers pointed out that a few years ago the family involving the marriage of a man and a woman enjoyed exceptional status in society and was considered to be something natural. At present, however, the value of the relationship between men and women has been relativised both in Western countries and by some Slovak media, added the organisers.
The Proud of the Family march also claimed that judicial activism defined by the left-liberal ethos is seeking to increase legal protection for various alternative forms of cohabitation to the level of the family bond between a man and a woman. “This trend could bring about negative consequences for fundamental human freedoms – freedom of speech and freedom of religion,” said the organisers, who went on to say that they have a “loving” attitude towards transgender and homosexual people and are against any displays of hate speech directed at these people.
Various people wearing the green T-shirts of the far-right People’s Party Our Slovakia (LSNS) took part in the rally. Co-organiser of the march Anton Chromik said that he didn’t know that they were there. “This meeting is apolitical, there are no political symbols, we’d like to demonstrate. There is only one sole idea – that the love of mum and dad is irreplaceable. No political symbols and T-shirts; the family is the key thing,” he added.
