SaS Founding Member and MP Mihal Exits Party
Bratislava, February 20 (TASR) – Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) party founding member and MP Jozef Mihal has decided to leave the party eight years after helping to get it off the ground, TASR learnt from the party’s spokesperson Katarina Svrcekova on Monday.
“We understand his [Mihal’s] decision, because he was under time pressure stemming from his public and party roles and regular training courses on taxes and levies,” said Svrcekova, who spoke after a session of the party’s presidium.
Svrcekova said that the need to take a break from politics and to dedicate time to training courses and his family – in conjunction with his disagreement with some of SaS leader Richard Sulik’s statements – have caused not only Mihal’s frequent absences in Parliament, but also his decision to leave SaS.
“This is closely linked to his health issues and recommendations from doctors to ease off. Freedom and Solidarity takes this fully on board,” said Svrcekova, who added that it’s up to Mihal, who is also a former labour, social affairs and the family minister (2010-12), to decide whether to give up or retain his seat in Parliament.
