Slovakia to Contribute Extraordinary €1 million to EU Trust Fund for Africa
Bratislava, November 22 (TASR) – The Slovak Cabinet at its regular session on Wednesday approved the provision of an extraordinary contribution towards the EU Emergency Trust Fund for Africa aimed at tackling causes of illegal migration and improving living standards in the countries of migrants’ origin or transit.

The EU has calculated that the Trust Fund is lacking some €110 million for current projects in 2017 and €230 million for 2018. Since the migration crisis broke out, Slovakia has been stressing the need for tackling the causes of migration and halting individual streams of illegal migrants.
It was one of the first EU countries to contribute towards the Trust Fund, providing €600,000. Meanwhile, the Visegrad Four (the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia) funded a pilot project in Kenya worth more than €2 million.
