Smer-SD ahead of SaS and LSNS in Mid-May AKO Agency Poll

Bratislava, May 23 (TASR) – Had a general election taken place in mid-May, it would have been won by the governing Smer-SD party on 21.5 percent of the votes, ahead of the Opposition Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) on 16.7 percent and the far-right People’s Party Our Slovakia (LSNS) on 10.4 percent, TASR has learnt from an AKO agency poll carried out on a sample of 1,000 respondents between May 16-21.

The Slovak National Party (SNS) would have ended up fourth on 10.1 percent, followed by OLaNO and We Are Family (9.1 percent each), the non-parliamentary Christian Democrats (6.7 percent) and Most-Hid (5.6 percent).

New parties Progressive Slovakia (3.9 percent) and Together-Civic Democracy (3.6 percent) would have failed to clear the 5-percent threshold needed to win representation in Parliament, as would have been the case for the ethnic-Hungarian SMK party (2.5 percent). All other parties received support of less than 2 percent in the poll.

Smer-SD would have gained 36 seats in Parliament, SaS 28, LSNS 18, SNS 17, OLaNO and We Are Family 15 each, KDH 11 and Most-Hid ten.

As many as 74.9 percent of the respondents would have gone to the polls, while 10.9 percent wouldn’t have voted.
