Smer-SD Ahead of SaS and SNS in Late April Poll

Bratislava, April 27 (TASR) – Had a general election taken place in late April, it would have been won by the governing Smer-SD party on 21.4 percent of the votes, ahead of Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) on 16.1 percent and the Slovak National Party (SNS) on 10.9 percent, TASR learnt from AKO agency, which carried out the poll on a sample of 1,000 respondents between April 20-24.

Voter support of Smer-SD has grown by 0.7 percent since the beginning of April, while SaS would have garnered 1 percent less. SNS would have gained 0.2 percent more.

Eight parties would have made it to Parliament in late April. The far-right People’s Party Our Slovakia (LSNS), which would have been a preferential choice for 10.3 percent of voters, also posted an improvement from early April. We Are Family party reported an influx of voters with voter support going up from 8.6 percent to 9.0 percent.

OLaNO on 8.7 percent showed an outflow of voters, while Most-Hid party would have gained 6.8 percent, which is an increase of 1.2 percent from the last poll.

Non-parliamentary Christian Democrats (KDH) would have made it to Parliament, too. It would have gained 6.9 percent, which is a drop of 1.7 percent compared to early April.

The poll also includes new parties Progressive Slovakia (3.8 percent) and Together-Civic Democracy (3.7 percent). The ethnic-Hungarian SMK party (1.9 percent) would have failed to clear the 5-percent threshold needed to win representation in Parliament, too. All other parties received support of less than one percent in the poll.

As many as 67.7 percent of the respondents would have gone to the polling stations, while 13 percent of the respondents wouldn’t have voted.
