Specialised Criminal Court Launches Proceedings in Case of TV Promissory Notes

Bratislava, July 22 (TASR) – A senate of the Specialised Criminal Court initiated on Monday proceedings in the case of the so-called television promissory notes and obstruction of justice against controversial entrepreneur Marian K. and former general director of television channel Markiza Pavol R..

The proceedings are scheduled to last six days and in absence of Marian K..

“I’ll defend myself as best I can,” stated Pavol R. before entering the court room. The trial will be attended by lawyers of the defendants Marek Para and Michal Mandzak, lawyers of the injured party Daniel Lipsic and Tomas Kamenec, and dozens of journalists, photographers and cameramen.

Marian K. is being prosecuted in custody over the promissory notes worth almost €70 million on which he based a claim against Markiza. The private broadcaster has been challenging the authenticity of the notes since the beginning, filing criminal complaints against both Marian K. and Pavol R..

Furthermore, Marian K. has been charged with ordering the murder of journalist Jan Kuciak. Pavol R. is being prosecuted at large in this case as well as the case of ordering the murder of his former business associate Silvia Volzova, which did not actually happen.
