AKO Poll: Smer Top with 27.5%, Seven More Parties would Make It to Parliament

Bratislava, October 24 (TASR) – If a general election had taken place in October, it would have been won by Prime Minister Robert Fico’s Smer-SD party with 27.5 percent of the votes, which would have given the party 44 seats in Parliament, an AKO agency poll revealed on Monday.

Opposition party Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) would have come second with 17.7 percent of the votes (28 MPs), followed by the Slovak National Party (SNS) – 15.4 percent (24 MPs), Kotleba-People’s Party Our Slovakia – 8.7 percent (14 MPs) and Most-Hid – 7.2 percent (11 MPs).

Other parties that would have made it into Parliament are OLaNO-NOVA – 6.4 percent of the votes (10 MPs), We Are Family-Boris Kollar – 6.2 percent (10 MPs) and the Christian Democratic Movement (KDH) – 5.9 percent (9 MPs).

The ethnic-Hungarian SMK wouldn’t have made it into Parliament with a mere 3.7 percent. Other parties in the poll received less than 1 percent, particularly Siet (Network) – 0.7 percent of the votes, the Communist Party of Slovakia (KSS) – 0.4 percent and the Slovak Green Party – 0.2 percent.

The turnout would have reached 67.7 percent, while 13.4 percent of the poll’s respondents said that they wouldn’t have taken part in an election, 14 percent were undecided, and 4.9 percent didn’t want to provide an answer.

The survey was carried out by telephone on a sample of 1,000 respondents between October 17-22.
