PG: Solving Murder of Kuciak and Fiancee Top Priority

Bratislava, October 5 (TASR) – Solving the double murder of journalist Jan Kuciak and his fiancee Martina Kusnirova remains a top priority for the police and Prosecutor’s Office, which have a fundamental interest in thoroughly investigating the crimes, Prosecutor-General’s Office spokesperson Andrea Predajnova told TASR on Friday.

“The extensive coverage of this still ongoing criminal investigation by the media seen in recent days doesn’t help the law enforcement bodies, but on the contrary – has a rather counterproductive effect. In this respect, we ask representatives of the journalistic community to show foresight and be cautious when providing any further information,” stressed Predajnova.

The Prosecutor-General’s Office also asks the media to respect the fact that a criminal investigation in which Prosecutor-General’s First Secretary Peter Sufliarsky is supposed to be the aggrieved party [the murderers of Kuciak were allegedly hired to murder Sufliarsky as well – ed.note] is only in its early stage. “Calm and undisturbed work for law enforcement bodies as well as a minimum of media leaks is a must for the success of any criminal proceedings,” added Predajnova.

“We’d like to believe that the media are aware of the gravity of both criminal cases because human lives are at stake here and that they’ll act accordingly in this context when publishing stories,” said the spokesperson.
