Ex-president Gasparovic Involved in Car Accident near Limbach

Bratislava, June 20 (TASR) – Former Slovak president Ivan Gasparovic (in office between 2004-14) was involved in a car accident near Limbach (Bratislava region) on Monday, Bratislava Regional Police spokesperson Lucia Mihalikova confirmed for TASR on the same day.

Gasparovic’s car ran off the road, and his security guards reportedly had to lift him out of the car. The ex-president is in sound health, however.

Fun Radio was the first to report the information. The accident happened shortly before 9.45 a.m. on the road between Pezinok and Limbach. “The driver of a Mercedes [containing Gasparovic] was driving the car on Limbasska Road in the direction from Pezinok to Grinava [both Bratislava region] when it collided, for a still unknown reason, with an oncoming Ford Galaxy that was turning into Za Panskou Zahradou Street,” said Mihalikova.

An ambulance crew had to help the Ford Galaxy driver following the accident. Boris Chmel, spokesman for the Emergency Medical Service’s Operational Centre, said that the woman was treated on the spot and that there was no need to transport her to hospital. The driver of the Mercedes and its two passengers suffered no injuries, confirmed Mihalikova.

Alcohol tests on the two drivers were negative. “The material damage caused by the road accident has been initially calculated at €16,000. The exact cause and circumstances of the road accident are under investigation, added Mihalikova.
