Folklore Ensemble Lucnica Sets Off for High Tatras Event by Train

Bratislava, July 31 (TASR) – The Lucnica folklore ensemble on Monday took a fast train from Bratislava’s main railway station to the High Tatra mountains in order to perform directly beneath the ski jumps at Strbske Pleso (Poprad region) as part of an event entitled ‘Lucnica v Tatrach’ (Lucnica in the Tatras), TASR learnt on Monday.

The event is taking place in Strbske Pleso between Monday-Friday (July 31-August 4). The ensemble choir also performed at the railway station before the train departed.

Lucnica is set to climb Krivan peak on Tuesday (August 1) and sing around Strbske Pleso mountain lake along with local children’s folklore groups on Wednesday (August 2).

On Thursday (August 3) the Lucnica dancers, musicians and singers will perform their main concert that will also commemorate founder, choreographer and artistic director of the ensemble Stefan Nosal, who died at the age of 90 in Bratislava earlier this month. “It’s an event that we have in the Tatras, and it’s something we’d like to dedicate to the memory of such a great person…,” Lucnica director Marian Turner told a press conference before the train left. He added that the Lucnica in the Tatras project is an attempt by the legendary Slovak folklore group to make this popular tourist area more vivid not only in terms of celebrating the beautiful countryside, but also in terms of presenting the beauty of Slovak culture.

The main concert of the event is scheduled for 8 p.m. on Thursday and will feature the best choreographies created by Nosal. “We want to present our representative performance. All Slovak regions will be included in it. We’ll perform all the basic dances and songs from west to east,” Turner told TASR, adding that the performance will feature almost all the 50-member dance group, a choir and a large orchestra.
