American Woman Goes Feisty at EU Polling Station in Bratislava, Police Called

Bratislava, May 25 (TASR) – A woman in possession of only US citizenship caused an uproar at a polling station in the Bratislava borough of Ruzinov as she demanded to be allowed to vote in the European Parliament elections and was prevented from doing so by the local electoral commission.

“A gentleman with a female partner, an American, appeared at one of the polling stations. The woman didn’t possess a dual citizenship, only that of the United States. Despite this, she demanded with tremendous verve to be allowed to vote. It went pretty emotive, so we had to call the police,” TASR was told by Tatiana Tothova, head of the Ruzinov authority communication department.

According to the election law, only citizens of the EU-member states with permanent residence in Slovakia are allowed to vote in the European Parliament elections in the country.
