Fico: EU Is Unique Project, We Want to Keep It Going

Bratislava, September 16 (TASR) – The leaders of 27 EU countries want to demonstrate their unity and show that the EU is a unique project that they want to continue, said Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer-SD) when arriving at the informal summit of EU leaders held in Bratislava on Friday.

“It was necessary to hold a meeting following Brexit. Twenty-seven leaders will pursue a very sincere discussion on the state of the Union. I believe that we’ve managed to prepare a plan for the most important issues that will need to be discussed in the upcoming six months. I’m positive that the summit will be a success from this viewpoint,” declared Fico.

The Slovak capital is hosting the leaders of all EU-member states, excluding Great Britain, for the first time ever. A total of 343 delegates, 1,350 journalists, including 1,100 from abroad, have registered for the summit, whose most important role is to stop the wave of pessimism and at the same time eliminate the risk of further potential referendums or attempts to weaken the EU.
