Bratislava, February 19 (TASR) – New rules will enable Slovaks to gain US work visas for the period of five years, TASR learnt from the Foreign and European Affairs Ministry’s Press Department on Friday.

The ministry managed to arrange a change in the period of granting visas for Slovaks in cooperation with Selena Nelson-Salcedo, US Consul to Slovakia, through “verbal notes”. The notes have been in effect since January 2016.

Work visas were previously granted to Slovaks only for two years. “This is an initiative step through which the United States is reciprocally reacting to Slovakia’s legislative change,” explained head of the ministry’s International Law Department Metod Spacek.

According to Spacek, the revision to the Employment Services Act facilitated access of the third countries’ nationals to the Slovak labour market, particularly by extending the period of granting a work permit from the so-far two to five years.
