Girl Brought from Egypt by Interior Ministry Doesn't Have Exotic Disease

Bratislava, July 31 (TASR) – Results of clinical tests have definitively confirmed that a 13-month-old girl who was flown by the Interior Ministry back to Slovakia from Egypt on Saturday (July 29) does not have any exotic disease, Health Ministry spokesperson Zuzana Eliasova confirmed for TASR on Monday.

“The little girl caught an infection that she could have easily picked up in Slovakia. She’s continuing to receive antibiotic treatment. The condition of the little patient is improving, and local skin imperfections are gradually receding,” said Eliasova.

The infant contracted a serious infectious disease while on holiday with her parents and a sibling at Marsa Alam tourist resort. Her condition then took a rapid turn for the worse. As the hospital in the holiday destination wasn’t equipped to diagnose and provide treatment to the girl, Egyptian doctors recommended immediate transport to Slovakia.

The family’s health insurance company wasn’t able to arrange air transport earlier than early on Sunday evening (July 30), so the Interior Ministry opted to send a special aircraft to Egypt. The Interior Ministry cooperated with the Foreign and European Affairs Ministry and Health Ministry in organising the transport.
