Inspection Checked Spis Frankfurters, Cimbalak's Production Suspended

Bratislava, December 21 (TASR) – An official inspection of Spis frankfurters showed that despite inconsistencies in the recipes of some producers, all tested specimens were safe, Deputy PM and Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Gabriela Matecna (a Slovak National Party/SNS nominee) told a press conference on Thursday dedicated to the results of the inspection made by the State Veterinary and Food Administration.

However, the trademark validity was immediately suspended for one of the manufacturers – Cimbalak. In total, the authority tested Spis frankfurters from nine brands.

“In cases where producer misconduct caused detriment to the consumer, the State Veterinary and Food Administration will start administrative proceedings and the companies will have to implement corrective measures without delay,” said Matecna, adding that the inspections will continue. According to her, the production must ensure the quality and composition of the premium product, and it cannot afford not to observe the recipe. “Consumer protection is first and foremost for us,” said Matecna.

After discovering a combination of several serious violations, the food authority immediately suspended the trademark for the company Cimbalak. The product had a lower percentage of pure muscle mass and contained cochineal red colour. The results of the inspection further revealed that three products, namely Baron by Puchovsky Masopriemysel, Tesco by Puchovsky Masopriemysel and Billa by Tauris, kept the recipe parameters.
