Kiska: Corruption at Highest Levels Exists
Bratislava, April 4 (TASR) – Corruption at the highest levels is hardly tangible and sophisticated, but it exists and those who claim otherwise are probably living in another world, Slovak President Andrej Kiska told students from the University of Economics (EUBA) in Bratislava on Tuesday.
“It’s known that we have ineffective and overpriced commissions and that some of them are always being won by a particular group of people,” said Kiska.
According to the head of state, the public is losing its trust in state justice. “It is partly due to major unsolved scandals. How long has the Gorilla case been investigated? People are tired of it,” said Kiska, noting that changes are necessary among both the police and the prosecutors.
The president went on to say that he is also angry about corruption in the health care system. He doesn’t understand how certain doctors can ask for a bribe, for example, before the surgery of a child with cancer. It’s boorish, stated Kiska.
Concerning the issue of revoking the so-called Vladimir Meciar amnesties, Kiska believes that Slovakia will succeed in doing so partly thanks to strong public pressure.
