Lajcak: Slovakia Assures Bosnia of Support in European Integration
Bratislava, February 16 (TASR) – Slovak Foreign and European Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajcak assured Bosnia and Herzegovina of Slovakia’s support for its efforts to integrate into the European Union at a regular Foreign Affairs Council session in Brussels on Monday, the Foreign and European Affairs Ministry’s press department informed TASR on Tuesday.
Lajcak met Dragan Covic, Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, who submitted Bosnia and Herzegovina’s official application for EU membership to the Dutch Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
“It’s a beginning of a new phase in which Bosnia and Herzegovina has made it obvious that it cares about the European prospect,” said Lajcak, adding that the ambition of the Slovak EU Presidency in the second half of this year is for the Council to formally request that the European Commission should make a statement on the application.
At their meeting Lajcak confirmed Covic’s willingness for Slovakia to assist Bosnia via its own experience of the EU integration process.
