Military Not Missing any Ammunition, Gajdos Says while Checks Underway

Bratislava, May 2 (TASR) – An inspection into the stocks of the Slovak Armed Forces hasn’t revealed any ammunition being missing apart from several boxes containing grenades that have probably been stolen in Trencin-Kubra, Defence Minister Peter Gajdos (a Slovak National Party/SNS) nominee stated at the parliamentary defence committee on Tuesday.

Early in April it emerged that an unspecified kind of ammunition went missing from the Slovak Armed Forces’ stocks in Trencin-Kubra.

“The missing ammunition was stolen,” said Parliamentary Vice-chairman Andrej Hrnciar (Most-Hid) referring to a report presented to the committee at the time by Gajdos. Meanwhile, the General Staff ordered inventory checks of all military stocks throughout Slovakia. Nonetheless, a thorough inspection, including the stocks of missiles, requires around six months, noted Gajdos on Tuesday.

Opposition Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) vice-chair Lubomir Galko, also on Tuesday stated that if Gajdos keeps his promise, a several dozen military figures will be punished for the incident in Kubra. “Some of them have already been removed from their posts,” said Galko.
