NAKA Interviews Former Police Corps President Gaspar

Bratislava, March 4 (TASR) – Radio and Television Slovakia (RTVS) and TV JOJ reported on Monday that former Police Corps president Tibor Gaspar was interviewed by the National Crime Agency (NAKA) in Nitra about the statements of police officer Pavol Vorobjov who said that Gaspar gave an order in 2017 to screen murdered journalist Jan Kuciak.

“I was interviewed regarding false statements from police officer Vorobjov that I gave him an alleged order to screen murdered journalist Jan Kuciak at the end of 2017. Just as I said to the investigator, I categorically deny this statement,” clarified Gaspar.

According to Gaspar, the screening of Kuciak was connected to the case of Filip Rybanic [Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) MP Jozef Rajtar’s assistant who as a bank employee violated banking secrecy by going public with information from the account of former interior minister Robert Kalinak – ed. note]. “To my knowledge, other journalists were also allegedly screened. Maybe, definitely more than twenty,” stated Gaspar. According to him, he’s known about the fact that so many journalists were screened by the Financial Police’s Intelligence Unit since November 2018. However, Gaspar didn’t specify any journalists’ names.

According to RTVS, Gaspar was interviewed for more than one hour.
