Northern Slovakia to See Minus 30 Degrees Celsius Early on Sunday

Bratislava, January 7 (TASR) – The Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMU) on Saturday released a low-temperature alert for Sunday morning concerning the entire Slovakia, with six districts in northern Slovakia having the red, most severe degree alert warning against lows falling to minus 30 degrees Celsius.
Meanwhile, yellow and orange low-temperature alerts are in place for almost the entire Slovakia (except for only four districts) for Monday morning.
SHMU also cautioned against strong winds that will even strengthen the chilling effect and create snow drifts on roads.
At the same time floods are likely to emerge as of Saturday around rivers blocked by ice floes in the districts of Martin and Liptovsky Mikulas (both Zilina region).
