Norwegian Ambassador Visits Rain Garden Project in Zvolen
Zvolen, August 15 (TASR) – Norwegian Ambassador to Slovakia Inge Magistad has visited the town of Zvolen (Banska Bystrica region) in order to see the results of a green project entitled ‘Biotechnological Innovations Using Rainwater in Zvolen’, TASR learnt on Wednesday.
The project was carried out between 2014-17 in cooperation with the local Technical University and Blue Alternative Foundation, and was funded by Norwegian and state funds.
Magistad visited Zvolen as early as in 2015 when the project was only in its early stages. “We were at the Technical University and looked at the plans. I’m glad that I can now see the implemented projects,” said the ambassador after meeting Zvolen mayor Lenka Balkovicova.
The project involves, for instance, a green roof at the bus station, 32 rain gardens, ponds, fountains and water walls using rainwater, rainwater tanks for greening or flushing toilets as well as planted greenery in the town.
“We’ve supported projects in two cities in Slovakia – here and in Bratislava. You have managed to implement a large number of innovative measures,” the ambassador told the mayor.
Balkovicova also presented future visions aimed at creating further green solutions in the town, hoping that Zvolen will once again be able to ask for Norwegian funds.
