Over 19,000 Tourists Visited Tatra National Park in a Single Day

High Tatras, August 5 (TASR) – As many as 19,227 tourists came through the alpine environment of the Tatra National Park (TANAP) in High Tatras on Wednesday (August 2), according to results of the latest visitor census annually organised by TANAP State Forest.

About one third of tourists used a funicular railway or a cable car to get to the TANAP alpine environment. “The amount of 3,624 visitors used a funicular route to get from Stary Smokovec to Hrebienok, while 1,275 tourists ascended on foot. Additional 1,994 visitors used a cable car to get from Tatranska Lomnica to Skalnate Pleso, while 182 tourists got there on foot. Finally, 1,084 visitors used a cable car to lift them from Strbske Pleso to Solisko and 187 tourists got to that point on foot,” TASR learnt from TANAP State Forest external communications coordinator Martina Petranova.

From the monitored peaks, the highest number of tourists climbed to the Rysy peak, with the number standing at 1,080 on August 2. “The number of tourists who climbed to the Krivan peak was 380, while 2,851 came to the Popradske Pleso mountain lake,” said Petranova.

The collected data serve to TANAP State Forest for planning the maintenance of tourist and information network or improving services it provides to tourists in this protected area.

TANAP State Forest has been keeping records on visitor numbers in TANAP since 1972. The highest figure was reported in 1980 when as many as 26,520 visited the alpine environment of TANAP in a single day.
