Parliament Exhibition Remembers Holocaust and Cruelties of Fascism

Bratislava, May 9 (TASR) – A photographic exhibition displaying one of the most tragic events of WWII – the deportations of Slovak Jews to concentration camps – was opened in the entrance hall of Parliament on Monday, TASR learnt on the same day.

The exposition marks the 71st anniversary of Victory over Fascism Day (commemorated on May 8 in Slovakia). It was put on display at a time when some people keep casting doubt about the horrors carried out under the banner of fascist ideology, said Parliamentary Vice-chair Bela Bugar (Most-Hid) when opening the exhibition.

Bugar stressed that political leaders have to take responsibility for their actions in order to prevent such human tragedies in the future.

“More than 70,000 Jewish citizens were deported to concentration camps,” said Interior Ministry’s State Secretary Denisa Sakova.

The exhibition showcases large-scale photographs depicting people waiting in wagons for deportation, quotes from the Jewish codex [a set of Slovak anti-Jewish regulations introduced in 1941 – ed. note], contemporary anti-Semitic propaganda posters and press articles.

The exhibition runs until May 23 (Monday).
