Pellegrini: I Wasn't Contacted Regarding Marian K.'s Slips of Paper
Bratislava, December 19 (TASR) – Prime Minister Peter Pellegrini (Smer-SD) announced after a Cabinet session on Wednesday that he hasn’t been contacted by anyone in connection with suspect messages that were allegedly sent from custody by businessman Marian K. in an attempt to contact certain influential figures, TASR learnt on the same day.
Pellegrini added that he believes that if something like that really happens, the state will manage to deal with it.
The National Crime Agency (NAKA) said that it had seized slips of paper with suspect messages sent from custody by Marian K. “No one can be forbidden to try to influence his or her affairs. The important thing is for the system to resist and for the competent authorities to act in line with the law. Everyone can influence who ever they want and in what ever way they want, but the result is important,” he said.
The premier also said that he will deal with the issue only if it’s confirmed that the information is true. As Interior Minister Denisa Sakova (Smer-SD) is also mentioned as one of the addressees of suspect messages sent from custody, Pellegrini will ask her about it.
Sakova responded that she only found out about the issue from the media. “I leave law enforcement authorities to investigate it,” she said. “Nobody has put pressure on me to influence the investigation, and I haven’t influenced this investigation either,” said the interior minister in response to the information that based on her order NAKA supposedly concealed one of the suspect slips of paper.
Earlier on Wednesday several media outlets, including TASR, received an anonymous email in which the writer claimed that Marian K. was attempting via the messages to suborn witnesses and contact certain influential figures from the judiciary and politics with a view to them helping him. The writer also accused the police of withholding some of the messages.
Police spokesperson Denisa Baloghova replied that NAKA seized the slips of paper with suspect messages and presented all of them to the supervising prosecutor. She added that “we absolutely deny that some evidence has been concealed”.
Marian K. has been in custody for around six months on suspicion of forging promissory notes against TV Markiza worth a total of €70 million.
