Alojz Hlina Remains Leader of Christian Democrats

Ruzomberok, March 17 (TASR) – Alojz Hlina remains the leader of the non-parliamentary Christian Democratic Movement (KDH), as KDH delegates made the decision in a secret ballot at the party congress in Ruzomberok (Zilina region) on Saturday.

Hlina has gained 233 votes from 338 delegates who took part in the vote.
Hlina’s challenger was MP Richard Vasecka (Independent) who recently quit Opposition OLaNO to join KDH. Vasecka garnered 101 votes. Three delegates abstained from the vote and one ballot was invalid.
Members of KDH leadership declared their support for Hlina before the congress. Vasecka cited strong and urgent bid from inside KDH among reasons for his candidacy. He was nominated as a candidate for the KDH chairman post by Presov mayor Andrea Turcanova earlier this week.
Aside from Hlina and Vasecka, also Nitra regional councillor Miloslav Hatala showed interest in running for the KDH chairman post. However, he gave up his candidacy earlier on Saturday.
