Poll: Smer Would Have Won Election in April Ahead of SaS and LSNS

Bratislava, April 12 (TASR) – Had a general election been held in April, the governing-coalition Smer-SD party would have won on 26.6 percent (with 45 seats in the 150-seat House), TASR learnt from a poll carried out by the Focus agency, which released the results on Wednesday.

The survey, which was conducted on a sample of 1,006 respondents between April 4-9, further showed that the Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) party would have been the preferred choice of 13.7 percent of respondents (23 seats), while the far-right People’s Party Our Slovakia (LSNS) came third on 10.1 percent of votes (17 seats).

Another five parties would have made it into Parliament – the Slovak National Party (9.9 percent/17 seats), OLaNO-NOVA (9.2 percent/15 seats), We Are Family-Boris Kollar (8.1 percent/13 seats), Most-Hid (6.9 percent/11 seats) and the Christian Democratic Movement/KDH (5.4 percent/9 seats).

The following parties would have failed to reach the 5 percent of votes required to win seats in Parliament: the Hungarian Community Party/SMK (4.3 percent), the Slovak Communist Party/KSS (1.3 percent), the Slovak Green Party/SZS (1 percent), SDKU-DS (0.8 percent, Siet/Network (0.6 percent) and Modern Slovakia Party/SMS (0.6 percent).

According to the poll, 69.6 percent of the respondents would have gone to the polling stations. Around 19.5 percent of the respondents wouldn’t have voted, while 10.9 percent wouldn’t have known whom to vote for.
