Poll: Smer Would Have Won Election in January Ahead of SaS

Bratislava, February 2 (TASR) – Had a general election been held in late January, the governing-coalition Smer-SD party would have won on 27.9 percent (with 46 seats in the 150-seat House), followed by the Opposition Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) on 13.2 percent (with 22 seats), according to a poll carried out by Focus agency on a sample of 1,008 respondents between January 21-27.

In third would have been the far-right Kotleba-People’s Party Our Slovakia along with OLaNO-NOVA, both garnering 10.2 percent of the votes and 17 seats in the House.

Another four parties would have made it into Parliament – the Slovak National Party (10.1 percent/17 seats), We Are Family-Boris Kollar (7.4 percent/12 seats), Most-Hid (6.4 percent/10 seats) and the Christian Democratic Movement/KDH (5.3 percent/9 seats).

The following parties would have failed to reach the 5 percent of votes required to win seats in Parliament: the Hungarian Community Party/SMK (3.4 percent), the Slovak Green Party/SZS (1.4 percent) the Slovak Communist Party/KSS (1.2 percent), Siet/Network (0.9 percent) and SDKU-DS (0.7 percent).

According to the poll, 69 percent of the respondents would have gone to the polling stations. Around 20.5 percent of the respondents wouldn’t have voted, while 10.5 percent wouldn’t have known whom to vote for.
